Heart Receives Education Grant From Charlotte Hornets Foundation, Lowe’s

November 23, 2015

The Charlotte Hornets Foundation and Lowe’s Education Grant program awarded a total of $50,000 to Heart Math Tutoring and five other local organizations to support high-need education-related projects.

Heart Math Tutoring received a $5,000 grant in support of its math intervention program in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools for 2016-17. Executive Director Emily Elliott and a second grade Heart student from Billingsville Leadership Academy accepted the grant during the check presentation ceremony during halftime at the Charlotte Hornets game Nov. 20 against the Philadelphia 76ers.

“This funding will be very helpful in allowing Heart to continue and grow its program next year. Thank you so much to the Hornets Foundation and Lowe’s for selecting Heart for this award. This was also a very fun way to receive $5,000!” said Elliott. “Our staff had a great time celebrating at the game, and it was particularly special to get to include a Heart student, his father, and his tutors in the check presentation. Thanks to everyone who cheered us on last Friday!”

The other five organizations to receive grants: Right Moves for Youth, Barringer Academic Center, Bethlehem Center of Charlotte, Sugar Creek Charter School, and Citizen Schools.
